San Juan Hut to Hut

Jan has been asking what's the plan. Michael W has offered an idea and tool. Dave and I have discussed a departure date. Read the below and comment with your input.

Known knowns
  1. We must be riding away on the trail with our bikes loaded early on the morning of July 10th from near downtown Telluride.
  2. We end on July 17th in Moab.
  3. Dave has rooms reserved in Moab for the 17th.
  4. Jan, Dave and I would like to arrive at least a couple days earlier than the start date. Dave and I have a tentative departure date of July 5th.
  5. Driving a reasonable amount of mileage each day makes this a two-day travel from CA to CO/UT. The half-way point is roughly at Tonapah, NV.
Known Unknowns
  1. We need to arrange a car shuttle to have at least one vehicle in Moab. We can pay a company to do this or arrange our own shuttle.
  2. We need to decide who is driving with whom both out and back. This will be decided by departure date wants/needs and locale. There are a myriad of ways we could do this. Mount Shasta could be on the way for Sarah and Jan. We could also meet up with Dave somewhere along the way. I know someone in Truckee where we could leave a car if needed.
  3. Michael Williams has a trailer with fork mounts that might work for taking all bikes at once. Dave has a concern that his through-axle fork might not work with that design.
  4. Regardless of how the shuttle is handled, we need to figure out where to leave cars during the trip. There is a pay lot at the Telluride airport. Many motels in Moab allow leaving of vehicles there if you are staying there before or after the trip.

I set this up on a blog (http://sanjuanh2h.blogspot.com/to easily capture all comments and put them in one place so you can see the whole thread in one place. If I set this up correctly you should be able to simultaneously post to the blog and send an email to the group by using the email mike.sojka.sjhtoh@blogger.com  The one pain in the butt is you have to accept an invitation to be listed as an author on the blog for your email to post.
